1930S Fixed Gear Liberty Schwinn Track Bicycle 28

1930s Fixed Gear Liberty Schwinn Track Bicycle 28

This is a sweet fixed gear track bike that i belivee dates to the 30s possibly earlier. It bears the liberty headbadge that is very nice. The 26 tooth crank is very nice and reads sa 34. The front hub i believe is a new departure w although i cannot be sure as the stamping is weak. All i can make out is new and w ubt the chrome is nice.

The 18 tooth fixed gear rear hub has no brake so when the wheel moves the pedals move, and is a new departure brx wtih very nice chrome on the sprocket and the chrome on the axel housing should clean up great. The diamond chain has no blueing. The pedals are very early art trap pedals with most of the nickel still present, with toe clips.
One pedal is imssing the end cap. The front fork is chromed with no drop outs, just very old school axel holes at the ends. It measures approx. 29.5 to the top of the seat tube and cross bar. It is approx.

33 atll at the handlebar stem bolt, and approx 42 from axel to axel. The seat is a wrights made ni england in very nice condition. The handlebars have good chrome and are typical of vintage trcak racers.

The drop stand in the ipctures is not included in this auction. It was installed to make the pictures possible.

Vintage track bicycles never had stands attatched, and this one doesnt either. I can not eb sure, though i believe that a s schwinn company made many of the bikes that were sold as liberty by the chicago cycle supply co.
And this one does have the schwinn crank and sprocket. It also has the seat post bolt with an s on it, though i agree that these could have been changed out at some time. The wheels are 28 nickel plated metal clad wood wheels with a significant amount of nickel plateing still showing, the spokes are all there and tight and the wheels run pretty true. The tires are modern that i put on so i could ride it. I will include the 1 single tube united states special racer tire 28 x 1 1/8 that was on the bike when i fuond it.

Overall the chrome is outstanding with normal signs of age. The paint appears to be original black that is very nice and shiny, with some fading whtie stripes and the normal nicks and scratches, though none are serious. The frame shows no signs of damage or repair and si similar to the frames from the teens and twenties, with rear dropouts and original axel set screws. The final finish on the metal work is edgy as i suppose they assumed most of these would be crashed beyond repair, as was often the case.

The bicycle is vrey light weight for the time. I would guess lses than 25 lbs. All you need now is to go to your local velodrome and give this thing a whirl, but be carefull. Crashing over the bars head first has since been known as taking a header.

Please do not bid if you are not in hte usa. I will not ship this bike out of the country as it would be very expensive and time consuming.
