Schwinn Pea Picker Krate Clone RestoredThis bike started as an original campus green 5 speed fast back. When it came time to restore it, i decided to make it a krate as i always wanted one. Even before the rebuild, the frame was straight and rust free with good welds. No need to worry about junk hiding under godo paint. The bike was taken down ot the frame and repainted by a local schwinn dealer that specializes in krates. He usually hsa 6 or 7, so he knows what he is doing. With the exception of a few parts that didn't look bad such as the kickstand, seat post, shifter/derailer, rear fender and handlebar tree, most of the chrome was replaced using genuine schwinn parts. The natural parts such as brake components were just cleaned up and left alone. Here is what is not original schwinn that i know of. The front tire is some fof name brand, the seat and chain guard are genuine schwinn parts, but they are repros from when schwin re-released the chinese made krates. Schwinn did not make krate specific chain guards. They all came plain chrome, so i had to paint nad decal it on my own. I also clear coated is to make it mroe scratch resistant. The rims were rechromed and at that time, the wheels were profesionally re-laced with stainless steel. The bike also comes with a spare can of campus green spray paint. Since this bike was finished, it has sat in my rec room for display only. Now, if you are asking what sets if off from a real krate, here are the major changes, the fastback has a narrower rear tire. To accomadate this, the shock absorber sissy bar came from a coastre brake krate. The rear frame tubes on a krate connect to the seat post, then continue on to end at the front down tube. The fast back rear tubes stop at the seat post. Overall this is a nice display piece. Not mint, because i wanted to keep as much of the original parts as possible down to the shifter decals. So what's the plus side to owning this, you can get the krate loko on a genuine american made schwinn for a lot less then an original. In fact my reserve is just a bit more then what otehrs are asking for chinese made coaster brake krates. Look around at krate parts, especially the front drum wheel. You can probably part this out (i ohpe you don't) for more than my reserve. That being said, this bike is sold as is where is.
